Homemade Pizza Sauce

Makes enough for 2-3 large pizzas

1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes, drained

½ teaspoon sugar

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

1 small clove garlic, minced

½ cup fresh basil

2 teaspoons kosher salt

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

1 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)

In a saucepan over medium heat, warm olive oil, add garlic and let cook stirring, about 2 minutes until fragrant being careful not to burn.

Add drained tomatoes, sugar, salt and pepper and stir, bring to a simmer and let cook 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Take off heat and stir in fresh basil (add dried oregano here if you like). Taste and add more salt if needed. Use warm or cold on pizza or as a good garlic knot dipping sauce!
